Rank search results by category

Use Category Ranking to set which product categories appear first for a search configuration. For more information about how ranking, sorting, and shared Root Categories work, see Category Ranking.

Prerequisites

  • Category Ranking is part of the Relevance & Recommendations module. If you do not see the Category ranking tab, ask your consultant or Customer Support if the module is active for your environment.
  • Category Ranking only works when the webshop sort method is set to sort by relevance (Default). In addition, if a visitor sorts the results differently, for example, by price or name, Category Ranking does not apply. The products then appear in the order of that sort method.

Open the search configuration

  1. Go to Search & Navigation > Search Management.
  2. Go to the Search Configurations tab.
  3. Click + Add Search, or click Edit for an existing configuration.
  4. Go to the Category Ranking tab.

Enable Category Ranking

  1. Turn on Group & Prioritize Categories. The Rank product categories and Unranked categories lists appear.
  2. Check the Root category. The badge next to the Root category shows how many shops use this category tree. The shop names appear below the Root category.
  3. Check that the shops shown are the ones you want to configure Category Ranking for. Shops that use the same Root category use the same category ranking.

Rank your categories

  1. Under Unranked categories, find the category that you want to rank.
  2. Drag the category to Rank product categories.
  3. Under Rank product categories, drag the categories into the required order.
  4. To remove a category from the ranking, drag it back to Unranked categories.
Tip

Rank only your top three or four categories. The categories listed under Unranked categories appear below the ranked groups in the standard search order.

Preview and publish

  1. Check the product order in the Search preview.
  2. From Shop, select the webshop that you want to preview.
  3. From Related search terms, select the search term that you want to preview
  4. To see the effect of Category Ranking on its own, turn on Ignore modified rankings. This temporarily ignores ranking changes made to individual products in the search configuration.
  5. Click Publish, or click Save Draft to save your changes without publishing.
