URL Redirects

A URL redirect (sometimes called URL forwarding) sends users and search engines to a different URL than the one they initially requested (source: Wikipedia).

Not every page that no longer exists needs to be redirected. However, you should always define a redirect when you know that a page is referenced elsewhere (for example, in a newsletter or in third-party websites). Also, always create a permanent redirect on the shop's homepage when moving your shop from one domain to another.

To work with redirects in the CloudSuite App, go to Marketing > SEO > URL Redirects. An overview appears, listing all redirects that have already been defined. Double-click an existing redirect to open its details or click New to create a new one.

  • Under Type, only one choice is available: Url.
  • Optionally, select the Shop to which the redirect applies. Note that a redirect for a particular shop takes precedence over the same one where no shop has been specified.
  • Under Start Url, enter the original URL that is being redirected. Start with a slash and do not include the domain name, but do include the language code if you have a multilingual shop.
  • Under Destination Url, enter the new URL to which the old one is redirected. This can either be an absolute URL or the URL after the domain name starting with a slash.
  • Under Redirect Method, choose whether the redirect is temporary of permanent.
    • Choose Temporary Redirect if the redirect is temporary (for example, during a campaign).
    • Choose Moved Permanently if the redirect is permanent (for example, if a URL has been changed, or a page has been removed, or the site is moving to a different domain and therefore has a different site name).

The new or changed redirections will not be immediately visible in the webshop. To see your changes in the shop immediately, select Rebuild URL Mappings and Clear All Cache in the Debug Tools in the CloudSuite App.
