Units of Measure (UOM)
Units of Measure (UOM) set the unit a product is sold and ordered in — for example a piece, a box, or a kilogram. You can also control how much a customer may order, and, when needed, show a price per unit.
Key capabilities
- Sell a product in a sales unit: piece, box, or kilogram.
- Control order amounts with order units: order unit, minimum, default, and maximum.
- Optionally show a price per unit, for example per piece, when you sell in a larger unit.
- Use predefined units, or optionally add new ones for your own packagings.
Use case
A shop sells most products per piece. Some products can only be ordered in fixed amounts, for example per 6 or per 12. A few products have a minimum order amount, for example 20 pieces. And for some products, the price is set per piece while the product is sold in a larger unit. Units of Measure cover all of these cases.
How it works
Sales unit (UOM). The unit a product is sold and ordered in — for example a piece, a box, or a kilogram. This is the basic unit you work with.
Price unit (optional). A product is sold in its sales unit — for example a box. When you want to show a comparable price, you can add a price unit (Price UOM), for example per piece. You set the link between the two in the price list, so the shop shows the price per piece while the customer still orders per box. This is used only occasionally and is set up per implementation.
Order units (optional). These control how much a customer can order. CloudSuite has four settings:
- Order unit — the customer orders in multiples of this amount (for example per 6 or per 12).
- Minimum order unit (MOQ) — the smallest amount the customer can order.
- Default order unit — the amount pre-filled on the order form.
- Maximum order unit — the largest amount the customer can order.
A product can have more than one of these set at the same time.
Order units are usually set in the ERP system and come into CloudSuite through the integration.
Considerations
-
For most products, the sales unit is also the base unit. A separate base unit only matters when you also use a price unit.
-
A price per unit is optional. Many shops sell and price in the sales unit only.
-
Conversion works only within one category. You cannot convert weight into a number of pieces.
-
Units and order units are often created and managed in the ERP system and set up during the integration.
