Software escrow: CloudSecure via Softcrow
CloudSecure is a software escrow service provided in partnership with Softcrow, an independent escrow agent. It helps protect business continuity for your webshop by storing encrypted copies of the CloudSuite source code and your environment data in a secure digital vault, known as the deposit.
If CloudSuite is ever unable to provide its services, for example in the event of bankruptcy, you can request access to the deposited data directly through Softcrow under the terms of your escrow agreement.
What is deposited?
When CloudSecure is active, the following components are encrypted and stored:
Component | Description | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
CloudSuite source code | Core platform source code required to run the webshop. | Monthly |
Customer database | Store data including orders, configuration settings, and customer records. | Weekly |
Configurations and templates | Themes, shop templates, and language files. | Weekly, with the customer database deposit |
Specification manifest | Verification record listing included files, version numbers, and timestamps. | Every deposit |
Note: Uploaded media files, such as product images and PDFs, are not part of the escrow deposit. These files are covered by your standard hosting backup procedures.
Security and encryption
Deposits are transferred to Softcrow over an encrypted connection and stored in encrypted form in their secure vault.
Access to the vault is strictly governed by the escrow agreement. Softcrow only releases deposited data after an official release condition, such as insolvency or permanent discontinuation of service, has been formally verified.
How the process works
- Request CloudSecure: Contact CloudSuite to request the escrow service.
- Sign the agreement: CloudSuite provides the standard tripartite escrow agreement. Complete and return this agreement to Softcrow.
- Automated setup: Once approved, CloudSuite configures the automated weekly and monthly deposits for your environment. No ongoing maintenance is required from your side.
- Cancellation: To cancel the service, submit your cancellation request directly to Softcrow, as the legal agreement is held between Softcrow and your organisation.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a regular backup and software escrow?
A standard backup protects against operational data loss, such as server outages or accidental deletion, and is managed by CloudSuite. Software escrow is a legal continuity safeguard held by an independent third party if CloudSuite ceases operations.
Do I get immediate access to the source code upon registration?
No. All deposited source code and databases remain encrypted in the Softcrow vault. Data is released only if Softcrow validates that a formal release condition specified in your agreement has occurred.
How can I verify that deposits are up to date?
CloudSuite transmits customer data weekly and platform source code monthly. Each deposit generates a specification manifest detailing the version numbers, timestamps, and files included.
Who handles billing and contract inquiries?
Because the escrow agreement is directly between your organisation and Softcrow, contact Softcrow for contract and billing questions. Contact your CloudSuite representative for platform or configuration questions.
